Question How long did the battery in your sensor key FOB last?

I bought my sensor key new from Sewell about 2 years ago, and the battery just died.
I initially thought some other more expensive component in my car had failed when everything stopped responding, instead of suspecting the obvious FOB battery!

Wondering if this is about the normal lifespan of the battery.

Replacement with an alternate CR2032 was fairly easy, after I watched a YouTube video.
(I would not have figured it out otherwise)

I replace all my batteries every 6-12 months... If you keep them stored close to the car, the batteries will not last very long.

2001 - 03 > not affected by proximity to car since no SmartAccess.
2004 - 06 > if SmartAccess button (lower driver's side dash above right knee) is off, key fob battery lasts much longer. Key fob near car with SmartAccess "on" draws fob battery voltage.

My battery was dead when I bought my car due to it being in the key box on the car's window. I think it was on the lot for a month or so.

I'm so used to the sensor functions that I'm gonna suffer withdrawal symptoms if I turn SmartAccess off.
The interesting thing is that my other (original) sensor key fob, which I keep in a safe, has a dead battery too.
That key was not used for over a year.

I replace the one in my smart key every 4 - 6 months. The car will actually tell me when the battery is low on my 04 UL as well.
