I would prefer to own a BMW 7 series over the LS430 and would also prefer an Audi S8, but both cars are just out of my budget to maintain

Hi:
Spend some time, look at Craig's and find an '04-'06 (best trans, I have an '04 and an '01), pay an extra buck or two for the UL version (both mine are UL's) and get a friend in SoCal (lots of fine examples, or SouthWest) to find you a low mileage one (make sure the expensive windshield is nice) & then fly out & drive it home (don't deal with the middle/East Coast America weather related issues....).
You then own the finest car EVER made for the general public!

Probably blown speakers. The only low rating on the 04 LS430 via consumer reports is the sound system. The amp and head unit are fine. The speaker cones degrade and fail. Front door and sub are the most common. In the LS400 it was either Pioneer or Nakamichi. I had the Nakamichi in my LS400 and it sounded good.

I have a 2004 with Navi/Air Suspension (Ultra Lux) and in the 6 months of ownership have not had a single issue. I've had 2 oil changes and a in cabin filter replacement during my ownership. Car is at 86K~ and drives better than a lot of newer cars.
Although my ownership is limited I use to valet cars in college and I have to tell you that i've driven everything imaginable. When thinking of sedans I've driven M5s, Alpina B7s, S55s, S63s, and no as awesome as those cars are in my opinion they don't drive as smooth and comfortable as a LS. When looking at power alone obviously the LS can't keep up with those cars however looking at the total package as far as comfort, durability, and cost the LS wins hands down in my book.
Good luck with your search and enjoy the forums. The guys on the LS forums are very helpful.
