Question 2002 Ultra…Strong fuel smell

I have a pristine 2002 with 82,000 miles on it. It has been maintained by the dealer, and maintained properly. I was on reserve yesterday…until the low fuel warning. I filled up. Today has been fine until I got into the car to come home tonight….the interior stunk like gas. I got home and opened the hood, and the smell was really strong.
What could be wrong? I parked outside, so that the fumes didn't fill up the garage.
Thanks

leaking fuel pressure regulator likely, there's two of them on top of the motor near the firewall.

Default Can I replace these myself?

Is the replacement hard to do where I need the dealer to do it?

Anything fuel related, under the hood, I would go to a mechanic and/or a Lexus dealer.

Default Backed the car up this a.m.

The "puddle" of fuel is sitting below the center right side of the engine compartment. Does that still sound like a regulator? If not, a hose or an injector? If it's a leaky injector, what should a repair like that cost?

the regulators shouldn't be too difficult, there's not that hard to access. I had one fail while driving and it was spraying fuel out of it, quite dangerous. Dealer replaced both the left and right one for $600. I think the parts were around a hundred bucks each.

Tow her to the dealer or quality shop. Check the fuel lines leading up to the fuel pressure regulator for cracks or broken connections and at the injectors.. Also check the lines leading up to the vapor canister. A puddle of gas would be more than just a bad FPR since that only release small amounts of fuel at a time while driving... Wouldnt leave a puddle over night.

I replaced all the fuel lines in my 96 impala ss because i had this strong gas smell from the front end. Turned out to be bad lines and a disconnected line to the vapor canister. I didnt have a puddle though. Good luck...

While ur at it you mights as well check your egr and swap it out if needed.

U can check it yourself. Once u locate it all you have to do is squeeze it with your hand. There should be 3-4 open slots that you can press with ur finger. If it is in working order you will hear a swoosh air sound. If u press it and it sticks, is hard to press, makes no sound, or doesnt expand back out when u let go (while the car is running) then it needs to be replaced. Just two bolts hold it on. As easy as changing a light bulb. Don't pay for them to replace it but they can check it for free. Takes 1 minute or less.

But just to be clear im not saying this is what is causing the fuel smell. Just that if you are getting work done on the fuel system you might as well check the egr valve while ur at it.

Default Turned out to be something minor

Can't remember what it was. Dealer charged me $300, so it was $100 of something wrong.
