is it possible that you get used to the light but not really seeing better?
My friend has a newer Mercedes with brighter bulbs but I can see farther with the "old" Hella halogens on the old 735.
In Germany on the autobahn you could not overdrive them at 130mph and the Cibie were even better

I just replaced my OEM bulbs with 8k bulbs and they turn off?!?1 I would have to turn my lights off an back on to start them back up.. I dont' think it's my ballest cause i put my OEM back on and they stay on perfectly with no shut off. What brand bulbs are you guys using??

Nice to know the headlight assembly comes off so easily... ... but the way he removed the bulb is the worst technique I've ever seen lol. I can just picture so many people slipping up and damaging the bulb. I prefer to unlock the ballast while the bulb is safely secured in the housing and then push the clips and slide the bulb out.
I was certain he was going to slip, break the bulb, drop the headlight, and start say *****

Thanks to OP for the close-up picture of the clips. I almost considered taking the entire headlamp assembly out (done it before easily) until I saw that pic. For anyone wondering, leave the bulb locked in, then push each of those tabs towards the front of the car (along the length of the bulb) while sliding it perpendicular and away from the bulb's core. After the retaining clip is undone, then unlock the bulb and it easily slides out. Wear new (grease-free) gloves and never touch the glass part of the new bulb with the gloves, your hands, or anything else.
In my Canadian 2002 UL, the stock bulbs were Osram XenArc 66050 (Made in Germany). My RH bulb died recently (19 years in-service, 179,000kms), so replaced both LH and RH bulbs with Philips X-tremeVision Gen2 bulbs (85126XV2C1, designed and made in Germany), bought from PowerBulbs.com (authorized Philips retailer, warranty fulfilled by Lumileds Commercial Canada / Lumileds Holding BV, discount for buying 2 bulbs at once, and prepaid/no extra customs/duties).
Hope these Philips X-tremeVision Gen2 bulbs last as long as the original Osram XenArcs.
