Default Brake life

I've read a lot of posts in the past about poor brake life in the 430. I've been watching and measuring mine since the car was new (2003) and was going to replace them this week, based on what I had read and the wear pattern.

Anyway...my total milage is 39,987 so I thought I should be ready. Yesterday I pulled the wheels and took a look at the pads measured them and compared them to the new ones I had purchased from Lexus. My existing pads still have over 50% of the pad remaining (6.27mm on the worst one). Bottom line is I rotated the tires and put my new pads on the shelf. I see no need to change them yet. The wear indicators are just starting to get close to the discs and even after that have a fair amount to burn off before they come on.

Is Lexus changing a LOT of brakes early to make some service dollars or I I just an unusual example of brake wear?

You need to quantify the type of driving you do. Obviously stop & go city or hilly terrain driving will eat pads quicker than highway miles . . .

I'm in a suburb of Mpls/St Paul. The car gets used around town mostly, so a mix of freeway and city driving. My computer usually shows an average speed between fill-ups of about 35-37 mph.

It more about the design and driving style. Out of the last couple of cars I own, everyone of them has their own pad replacement schedules.

- 94 BMW 540i 1st pad change at 50k
- 97 Honda Prelude Type-SH Pad still good at 70k confirm by dealer mechanics.
- 2003 ML500 every 18k for a pad change
- 2004 G35 1st pad change at 23k

I hope my 06 LS430 will perform like my old BMW.
