Default Door Hinge broke off!! Is there a fix??

Can anyone tell me what this piece is and how to fix it? This piece on my door broke off... I'm not sure what the part number of this piece is or how to fix it. But now my door swings lose when I open it. Can anyone tell me what the fix for this is? (check lower post for pictures).

There is a piece that connects from the frame of the car to the door. It retracts inside the door and extends when you open the door. It basically functions as a door spring.

That's called a door check. They can be replaced. I am on my cell phone right now so I am not able to provide a part number. But go check out a u-pull-it yard with an LS400 (of your generation just to be sure.) You can get your part and see how the door comes apart and such at the same time without worry of breaking something on your car.

There are no pictures, there is no year of the car. So you just make it a guessing game for all that try to help.

@ Dicer, I'm not sure why you guys can't see the pictures... I'm looking right at them in the original post! I'll add it as an attachment if that helps... And the year should be in my sig' but its a 98.

The links in your original post seem to be from a gmail account, hence we can't see them but you can. You don't have your signature enabled.

The item you're looking for is called a "Door Check". They are side and door specific (ie- driver vs. passenger side and front vs. rear door).
'95-00 LS400 door checks should be interchangeable.

It would be MUCH easier for you to say 98 than for us to go to the trouble of looking up your sig......

Do I have to take the entire door panel off to access it? it seems like something that should be easy to fix but it looks like the door or the panel has to come off. Anyone ever fixed oen fo these before?

Yes, the door panel must be removed. I haven't personally had to replace a door check on an LS400 but I'm guessing it's easily accessed through the speaker hole after removing the speaker.

Are you near Atlanta?

Also, since you didn't just join with this one issue and have 100 posts I'll let you know that I may be selling some parts off of a project car once I get done with it this week. I have either side door check and may be able to sell it to you cheap and could also provide some steps to replace it yourself.
