I used to be on 20's, I cant remember the exact specs of the wheel. I wasn't as low as I'd wanted to be but I had to roll and pull my front fenders. I recommend lifting your wire harness on the driver side as high as you can or you will rub against it. The wheel also destroyed my cable that opens the hood (also on the driver side).

it all depends on offset and tire size, but yes 8.5 is not that wide. here is my ride when I was on 20s (air ride equipped of course but I roll with the tires just below the edge of the fenders).
weds maverick 405s
20x9 +24 225/35 nitto nt555
20x10 +24 245/35 nitto nt555
no pull, all stock fenders, just shaved front and back!

There's a wheel thread sticky you might want to look at. I've been searching that and found a lot of good information on various wheel setups for the LS. 8.5 isn't very wide, but 20 inches is a lot of diameter. These wheel wells take in a lot, but your tire size (how tall your sidewall is specifically) will have more impact on your driveability. Got any pics?
