Default Lets talk about Brakes

I am curious what you all would recommend for Brake pads and rotors for my recently acquired 1999 Lexus LS400 with 254k. The current brakes speak and are super mushy and it makes modulating the brake pedal a little scary. What would you recommend for a great stopping power and low dust for a decent price

I've got Wagner ThermoQuiet Pads on all 4 corners on my 97'. Doesn't make any noise, cold or hot, and produces good performance (for DD concerns) I hardly notice any dust on my wheels even after a 1000 miles.

The previous owner installed them just before I purchased the car and I've racked up almost 20k miles and they're still performing great.

OEM brake pads and rotors would be my choice.

Agree with 9000revs. I put new OEM pads and front rotors on and the brakes work perfect.

I've got those pads on all my cars and I really like them. I usually go with Bosch for the rotors.

Yeah, they're great! I installed them on my parent's Sienna and they also tow a 5x8 trailer and still peforms excellent without any fade with that much weight.

For rotors, I'm still using the previous owner's Raybestos that he bought from RockAuto and installed when he did the pads. What pissed me off is he just resurfaced the rears instead of replacing and I was getting a nasty shudder when braking that I felt on my ***. Its amazing how inexpensive parts are on that website and you occasionally find closeouts that you can't believe they'd sell for that low.

Luckily I found a UCF20 at the JY that had just done a brake job and pillaged the rear rotors off those for only 16 bucks on half off day. They still had the cross hatch marks and zero rust on the hat of the rotor, so I knew it had less than 1000 miles on them.

Hadn't even thought to check out the rotors while I was picking at the Pick/Pull places. Good idea. My Lexus front rotors look like a ski slope and can't wait to replace them.

Add a good bleed of the brake fluid (probably a full fill/replace) for the mushy pedal. Sounds like you've got some air in there.

This week I'm going to rebuild my calipers, flush/replace all the fluid, and install Ebay slotted/crossdrilled rotors/pads. I'll let you know how it comes out.

OEM pads and rotors. A little pricey but worth it. No issues since doing a complete swap nearly 2 years ago.

Awesome. Thanks for the info! Now I just got the starter click issue last night at work... I may move my brake job to the back burner...

what about the Brembo blanks? I've used them on my other cars with positive results. They didn't seem to warp as fast as stock Honda rotors on my Fit.
