Default Question on oil and tranny fluids pan....

I seem to have a slow oil leak on my 1990 LS400. as well as a transmission fluid leak . I decided to check the 15 or so 10mm bolts alll around the pan itself. They were all pretty lose not loose enough to where the pan was gonna fall but I had to give em a few prolly about 5 or 6 reps to tighten them up. This is what the 10 mm bolts were like on the transmission fluid pan as well. So my question is do these bolts remain tight tight? Or are they supposed to be a little backed off? Also I drained all my anti freeze out to change the o-ring and housing of the thermostat just from the valve right up front of the car. L closed it back up and refilled it only for the fluid to go straight back out of the bottom??wt heck just happened?

The engine oil pan and trans pan bolts, that's normal especially if there is a gasket the heat cycles and gasket crush seem to let them loosen up. The valve cover gaskets and bolts all not a good design tend to loosen a lot.
So the coolant just runs out? From where? I front could be water pump.

Well I tighten the pans bolts up nice and good and I'm not to sure where the anti freeze is leaking from I been searching all day I threw a bottle of BARS LEAKS engine repair in the engine crankcase so hopefully that will fix any seals that have gone bad.

I think the torque for the oil pan is around 66 inch pounds. That's not a whole lot of torque. The seal is mostly from cleaning the surfaces and letting the gasket glue set up properly. You could easily have over/torqued the bolts. I would also never use additives in any of my engines. JMHO

I probably over torqued definatley then cause I made them nice and tight. How come no additives in the engine?

How come no additives? I have the perfect video for you. Look at around the 10 minute mark:

Look at around the 10 minute mark:
I'm amazed that engine still runs. I would have trashed that radiator though. Couldn't be much more expensive to throw a new one in than doing that time-consuming flush job.

I was thinking the same thing as he was flushing it. No way, he even get a small portion of that out.
