AND NO YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE INJECTORS, just the wires to them. Leave the injectors and rail in the lower intake manifold. Just lift it easy and don't set it down on them.

Default Knock sensor harness replace or repair?

On a 96 ls400 I am going to take apart to check knock sensor and harness my question is if there is a problem with the harness is it find the obvious "grounded/exposed" copper and repair/insulate? or replace the harness itself?

The knock sensor is a kind of a ceramic microphone with a built in resistor which makes it possible to be checked by the ECU since the ceramic is not conductive. The resistor also makes it possible to reduce the interference.

You can check it connecting to an audio amplifier with a speaker/headphone. Listen to the sound and compare with the other side one or use an oscilloscope. The harness can be checked easily by an ohm meter.

I'd replace the harness. You don't want to do it twice.

Default Are knock sensor harnesses accessible without intake removal?

Wanted to see if getting to the knock sensors harness to check for open/short are accessible without removing intake? I really want to check the basics before I start some major work or purchase unnecessary parts. On another thread I had a message that knock sensor can be removed with access after EGR ***. is removed for access for removal. Thanks

I suppose you could check from the ecu plug back, you will need the wire diagram of course.

the TSRM has diagnostics you can run from the ECU plugs for the sensors, otherwise no.

From my experience it's either rats eating away the wire or the sensor goes bad.
