Talking Timing Belt Finally Changed at 170K

My power steering pump finally started to leak on the '92 LS400. I decided to do the works - timing belt, water pump, power steering pump and lines, blah, blah, blah, and front shocks. First time for every thing.

I thought the original belt running until 170K (still going, but I lost my nerve) proves nothing out lasts a LEXUS.

Keep 'em running FAST!!

Default Your cost

What's your cost for those repairs?I have a leak on my PS and the mechanic told me that I also need a rack and pinion. What do you think? Can I use part from a 96 LS mine is a 90 LS.

Thanks

hharlin98,

I didn't have to do the R/P in the steering system just the pump and lines fluswhed and filled. Total bill was $2100, but there was a ton of stuff done.
Timing belt
PS pump and lines (supplied)
Water pump
Water pump seals, thermostat
Idler pulleys and bearings
Fan Bracket
Tensioners
Flush and filter Transmission
Flush and fill radiator
Rear differential flush and fill
Serpentine belt (supplied)
Caps and Rotors (supplied)
Front Shocks (supplied)

Don't know if I got a deal or took, but now I have peace of mind on the road. You forget how quiet these motors are. May have to get a new starter now as I will most likely try starting it while it's running.

Maybe other can tell me if I got a deal or not.

Thanks everyone for you information - I have been lerking the site for a year.

The Lexus dealership here charges $699 for the 90K service that includes things that you mentioned like replace the differential oil, coolant, but no rotors and shocks. Replace timing belt and water pump is an extra $850.

GS,

I doubt the dealer includes the fan bracket in the 90k service...I also doubt the dealer includes the caps, rotors, idler pulleys, tensioners, ps lines and pump in that same service. 2100 sounds fine for all that work....some of the parts were supplied but still thats sounds ok.

Actually, I have a 92 with 140k and it needs much of same....I have done the ps pump and rack already and not its time for the fan bracket and timing belt/wp stuff.
