I need help- 1UZ into a '66 MB
Hi club members, I'm new here and I hope I can find answers to my problem. I have a 1966 Mercedes that I am installing what I believe is a 1994 LS400 engine. I'm an old school mechanic and not yet familiar with computer controlled engines. If it had a carburetor and distributor it would be running by now. I will use an aftermarket computer do not need any smog sensors. So here is what I need to know, The fuel system pressure, where all the necessary sensors are, and what they look like. I will block off or not wire the ones I don't need.
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

Welcome to CL.
Some here in Car Chat might (?) have the answer, but you are more likely to get it in our Maintenance forum or LS400 forum.

Yeah, the LS forum will be able to help you and provide you with service diagrams and parts lists for sure.
Sounds like an interesting project you are working on, not an easy one though. Woah!

Even with an after market ecu you will still need some of the so called smog sensors. The O2 sensors will need to be there to adjust the air fuel ratio's. Fuel pressure 41 psi. You'll need some pictures to show where any sensors are. And actually the sensors needed will pretty much be a self explanatory deal when you get the after market ecu system. And actually it wouldn't be too difficult the make it carbureted if that is what you want, and not out of the realm of using point type ignition either, since it does have distributors. The main problem with that would be figuring out a good system for advance. There would be some fabrication and machine work needed. http://www.lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3007, so what after market ecu are you going to use? Mega squirt?

Welcome
We generally are a pretty mild bunch where engine mods are few between. Lextreme may have info in your transplant.

the question is what aftermarket ECU will you be running. i can imagine it will have to be a fully custom standalone unit, which as stated, is already few and far between. most swaps i've seen utilize the stock ECU (which controls the transmission as well if you are running the factory gear box).
you need to know what the ECU will be looking for in order to eliminate the unnecessaries.

And if it is an automatic transmission your using like the one that goes with the 1UZFE you will also need a stand alone controller for it too.
I looked into controllers some years ago for another project not Lexus related. And they were in the $700 range each, so for engine and transmission that would be $1400 or so. There are cheaper ways to go for the engine. I agree with timmy that the stock ecu would be the cheaper route, and less hassel.
