I have noticed that for a while that when I go over a bump, I hear thunking noise coming from rear. The other day when I was under the car I’ve noticed the Strut Bar bushing is badly worn and I think I am in need of replacing the bushings.

I’ve done some search on this forum and learned that the gen2 front Strut Bar is similar design to the gent1 rear. I am not sure if they are identical bushing is used…

Few questions I have for a starter are:

Has anyone had to replace the bushings? How difficult is the job? From the look of it on the Repair Manual, it looks straight forward, exception of pressing in the busing into the rod, may be.

Where can I purchase an OEM bushings? Does anyone have an OEM part number for bushings? If the OEM bushings are not available, what are my alternatives in purchasing?

Are you talking about the trailing arm bushing? Maybe snap a pic so we know what the issue is. If its the bottom bushing on the knuckle, its super easy to change, no press needed, parts are cheap on ebay. Also, those bushings usually cause wander in the rear as opposed to a noise.

I would like to replace what is labeled as Adus 5056 in the attached diagram and the question was about the bushing.

Now I am leaning towards to replacing Adus 505 as well.

Any tips on difficultness and OEM parts availability would be appreciated.

Mike hi ,have you checked out the Lexls how to , this will give you an idea of whats involved in replacing the bushings . Poly bushings are readily available and cheaper than the OEM rubber ones .

I did only the 505 bushings on mine and it was a breeze, got the parts off ebay for cheap, worked great.

These are tutorials on replacing 505 bushings. This bushing is called "Rear Axel Arm Bushing" and is also known as "Carrier Bushing". I've seen postings that when this bushing is bad, you will feel the pulsating when brake is applied. Well, I don't have pulsating brake. I think I will just replace the 5056 bushing. This bushing is called "Rear Strut Rod Bushing" and is also known as “Strut Bar Bushing” or “Trailing Arm Bushing”.

Has anyone replaced this bushing? Is there a OEM parts available? Does this require a removal of Strut Rod and pressing of the bushing into the rod? Your input is appreciated.

I have GEN1 (93’) and whenever going over a bump or a pot hole, I hear CLUNK from the rear. What could be the problem?

I’ve done search in this forum and there are many discussion on front Strut Bar in front for GEN2 vehicles but none for GEN1, REAR.

Actually, when I wrote the thread, I was somewhat certain about the villain but now I am not so sure...

I am trying to pin point exactly the problem that is causing the noise. I am sure I am not the only one who is experiencing this thunking noise coming from rear.

Once the problem area is identified, and fixed, I always share my findings and repair for future user in forum.

What I am trying to fix is the thunking noise from rear when going over a bump or potholes.

Is this a symptom of Strut Rod Bushing (ADUS 5056 in diagram) going bad?

Your posed pics are replacement of bushings on knuckle (or outer bushing) for Suspension Arm Bushing (ADUS 583 which provides both inner and outer bushings).

Also mentioned tutorial is a procedure to replace Axel Arm Bushing (ADUS 505 which is also on the knuckle). And the symptoms of this bushing going bad is heavy vibration when braking as if front brake rotors are warped.

Is replacing the bushing require a special tool or press machine to put on the bushing?

Does the arm come off to replace just 5046 bushing?
