Default Electric seat not working

1996 LS400 184k. Driver's seat stopped moving forward or backward. All other seat functions work. The seat also will not move when using the memory buttons on the door. I searched but could not find any information.

Only had a brief chance to look at it (daughter drives it) but I wouldn't think it had fuses for separate seat functions? I am at work now but will check them when I get the chance.

I don't think it's a fuse problem. Because the driver's and passenger's seat share the same 30A fuse. When the fuse is open, both seats stop the function. You'd better to check the motor and the related circuits such as the switch, the wiring and the seat position computer if equipped. The seat position computer is not equipped for lower grade models.

Thanks for the replies. I plan to check the switch first, and mine is just the base model. I am going to assume since this problem seems rare the motors in the seat are very robust.

yes i would check the switch next. any corrosion on the contacts will cause problems. you can spray electronics cleaner in there for a quick fix (after you removed the switch from the car first).

*UPDATE*

I pulled the first aid kit and pushed/pulled all the connections under the seat. Finally, probably in frustration, I yanked on the cable (not electrical cable) that connects the "up and back" seat motor to the drive gearing on the opposite side rail of the seat. The seat instantly started working. When I moved the seat all the way back it once again stopped working. A slight wiggle of the drive cable started it back up. I might pull the seat and see what is going on with it.

It's something simple like that. I'm relieved, getting the seat out with it all the way back would have been a chore. BTW, have you seen the price of one of those motors? Even with sewell discount it was around $500.

I'm not overly familiar with the seat motors on these yet, but alot of small electrical motors can be rebuilt with new brushes relatively easy. Like the steering wheel tilt/telescope motors, the internal brushes just wear out after thousands of in and out cycles.

Do what I did 7 years ago, take the bolts out, disconnect the plugs, and plug them back up and try them out, all that "jiggling around" just might wake them up, worked for me, it was free...... time? you have the rest of your life... money (who can say)
