Default Adding oem drl relay

Quick question, if I get an oem drl relay from a 99-00 LS400 can I put it on my 98? As the 99-00 came standard and the 98 did not. Now is there a harness where I can just plug in the oem drl relay to and it will give me that drl option?

I don't remember anyone really trying. However, Toyota rarely includes any infrastructure for features their cars don't have. For example, the under hood fuse box in our 2012 Prius v wagon has a slot for a DRL relay but there are no wires leading to it. I suppose you could check to see if at least their is wiring leading to the DRL2 relay that Puredrifter mentions in the following thread and wiring leading to fuse #42: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ng-lights.html

The following section of the 2000 LS400 owners manual shows the location of the DRL-relate fuses.
http://drivers.lexus.com/t3Portal/do.../00lsom/64.pdf

There is apparently a second DRL relay under the dash: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...wires-how.html

The first link I provided has my post on using a WebElectric kit to use the turn signals on our Prius as DRL - more than bright enough to meet the Canadian DRL requirement. The front turn signals on the 98 LS400 are at least as bright as the turn signals on our Prius so I think they would make excellent DRL. Like the 98-00 LS, our Prius has automatic headlights. The WebElectric DRL kit I installed allows the DRL's to turn on and off with the automatic headlight feature.

Now that I figured out what this DRL is do you know if 1991 might have this function?

Lights on is mandatory here and DRL would help. I'd hate to add aftermarket daytime running lights on my LS.

i'm sure you can adapt the canadian spec LS models to add DRLs since all cars old and present are required there to have them. as far as plug and play of the relay, you will need to compare wiring harnesses to confirm.

I know my 2000 has a controller behind the glove box for the DRL. I don't like mine, I plan on disabling mine by grounding out the light green wire of the controler. Which will make the relay think the parking brake is on.

If you put your parking brake on and then start your car the DRL will stay off until you release the brake.
