My power steering hose has a slow leak where the metal tubing from the pump connects to a rubber hose and I am interested in replacing it. (This is the pressure hose and not the return hose that is leaking on mine.)

Does anyone know if they fit ok and are they of any quality. I'm thinking the Gates brand would be ok if it Fits.

you could have a more serious problem than a small leak. i would investigate further first

Gates may work... I have not tried them...
I pulled mine off and took it to a hydraulics shop here in town and they rebuilt it... about $70
Just checked it yesterday after 6 months... still works/looks great.

So was it a real pain to get out and back in?

I had considered taking the route you did but for < $50.00 I thought the new hose may be just as good.

The good thing about the way you did it was you knew the fit was correct.

Yes... that is true, I knew the fit was correct.
Pretty easy to get out....but, putting the bolts back in on the rack side proved to be difficult.
It's a blind fit and you need to put them in first to allow for complete hose movement to line up the bolts.
I found removing the driver side tire and accessing it that way was the easiest access.
I was pleased the bolts broke loose pretty easy once you got the ratchet on there... this was done on a 95 with about 140k miles.
The rack and pinon is still leaking a bit but was not nearly as bad as the high pressure hose.
$50 is a good price and I know gates makes good belts so would assume the hoses are good also, but have never tried them.
Good luck... and disconnect the negative battery connection also as you're working very close to the alternator.

So the pump, or reservoir seal, or low pressure line, none of those were leaking?

No... and I was surprised... the pump was clean... but the high pressure hose was soaked so much it was dripping off the the foam protectors... Probably should have done the pump and seal and low pressure hose while I was there, but I was already doing the plugs and wires and throttle body and only had a day to get it all done.
For an 18 year old car it continues to amaze me how well it drives, so quiet and powerful. And the interior is about a 9.5 out of 10... I'll be looking to sell it soon as I have too many 400's but I know I won't get enough money for it.

Gates usually makes quality stuff, but for pressure hoses I tend to favor having them rebuilt from local hydraulic hose shops.
