Size matters! - let's put a BIG oil filter on our LS!

an oil filter is technically compatible and legal for liability reasons, if the following things are true:
● same thread size
● same gasket diameter
● same bypass valve relief psi
● no physical issues (hot exhaust nearby, sway bar in the way, ground clearance reduced, etc.)

Oversize filters do have some benefits, such as much higher capacity, for folks who tend to let their change interval slide occasionally, which is not a problem if the owner is using a top quality full synthetic oil that is easily good for 10-15k miles. We are all human, and screw up sometimes and don't get the oil changed on time. This is extra insurance.
There have also been some advancements in anti-drainback valve (ADBV) technology over the years, the Motorcraft FL-400s, for example, has quieted startup noise on some engines that were noisy with all other filters. - This is because Ford had some issues with this and went a little overboard designing a super filter with a remarkable ADBV to hide a bigger engine design issue, but we are the beneficiaries!
The "running cooler" is a myth however, and overall oil cleanliness improvement between changes is marginal at best.

Here is something I have not been able to find an answer for:
Ideally, we want our filters to filter out as much as possible ,down to the minutest little particle. But in doing so, the filter is bound to become clogged sooner. Also, it means its filtering element is finer, needing higher pressure to push the oil through.
So there is that balance that needs to be met: filter as much as possible while allowing oil through.
And my question is: does 1UZ-FE oil pump produce enough oil pressure that one can use filters which filter out even the smallest particles? Or would using such filters only clog up the filter quickly and result in no filtering very soon as there is not enough pressure any more and too much resistance in the filter?

very small particles can fit multiple particles into a small clearance and they act like ball bearings and spin on each other, doing little if any damage
large particles are too large to fit into critical areas
the size of this damaging medium size particle will vary based on the engine, 1970's engines had large clearances, a 2014 engine has much smaller clearances, LS400 is somewhere in the middle of these two, on the smaller side
the oil pump of the LS400 and any of the filters I mentioned in post #1 of this thread are a good match and will catch these damaging particles

I really don't see the benefit in this. If you want to drive longer without an oil change i whould only change the filter then for a ORIGINAL one. So change the filter twice between oil changes. I just change the oil (mobil 0w40) every year with a nipparts oil filter (made in japan)
Cowboy, you recommend for everything OEM parts why not in this ?

is 90915-20004 even made any more? My understanding is that they stopped making it years ago (like 2004 or so), and whatever we find here is just old stock which would mean that eventually they will disappear and not be available anywhere... but maybe I am mistaken?

the Motorcraft FL-400s is rather over-engineered as a fix to a noisy engine on startup problem that Ford had, with the most advanced anti-drainback valve in any filter, so we all benefit from Ford's screw-up, and it is even economically priced!
Yamae would be the best person to tell us whether this original equipment filter that came installed on our LS's is still being made.
For what it is worth, it is one of the most free-flowing of all current filters that will fit the
1UZ/3UZ engines, and considerably larger than the current replacement filter sold by the dealership which is made in Thailand

Below is what I was informed by a local dealer when 90915-20002 was not available any more.
90915-20002 for Celsior UCF10,11,20,21
90915-20004 for Celsior UCF30,31
90915-20002 is not manufactured any more and the dealer uses 90915-20004 instead of 90915-20002. According to them, 90915-20002 was replaced to 90915-20004.
So 90915-20004 is widely available here in Japan now.

I make it a rule to use genuine oil filters and I don't have any particular interest on non-OEM filters.

Can we organize some sort of a group purchase or something, from a reliable source? I found that one site, and it seems legit, if we disregard the problem in their HTML code which is showing some irrelevant stuff such as Polo t-shirt offer... but other than that, any other ways to get a hold of this OEM fitler?

Which makes me even more frustrated that it is so hard to find here - the 90915-20004.
