And I bid the trusty old LS400 goodby
More specifically, a stupid deer did it for my wife. We just rolled 407,000 miles on the odo and the car was still going strong. I planned on keeping it alive until 500,000 miles just to say I did.
Core support/tie bar is mangled as is the mounting point for it. Car just isn't worth fixing.
Fortunately, I've located a clean 1992 LS400 that I hope to pick up tomorrow. Will the climate control panel from my old one fit the 1992? I installed one of those replacement LCD panels that required a solder job in the old car a few years back and would like to transfer it over.

I'm pretty sure the hood will buff out!
Glad everyone is ok, and sorry that it didn't make it to 500k. A friend of mine works at the dealer and told me he has four different 1st gen LS's come in on a regular basis with 400-500k miles for routine service!
I'm not 100% on the climate control, but I think 90-92 were all basicly the same. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Hopefully I won't get banned for saying this, but I think this particular car may be resurrected as a Lemons racer. It would be a viking funeral, of sorts. Curious how long a 1UFZ engine with 407,000 miles on it would last if run hard for hours on end. Might throw in a tranny cooler as well. I dunno...the car is so comfortable, might fall asleep during the race.

Climate control box from 90-92 are the same. It will bolt right up no problem, I got into a nasty head on with a telephone pole some years back in my old 90 that had worse damage than your car has. I bought a 91 that was rear ended real bad and over a few weekends and a few cases of beer, I just swapped everything over from the 91 to my 90. Whole front clip, radiator, fans, belts pullies hoses lights and all! She was two different colors when all was said and done but I managed to keep her on the road another 3 years after that!

Do any of you know if any of the Jim Walker replacement LCD panels are still available? That's what I used to repair the climate control panel in the 90. Should have grabbed another of his parts while I had the chance.
Does replacing the front clip involve drilling out a bunch of spot welds, or does the radiator core support/tie bar bolt in?
Update: Found the URL from five years ago: http://www.lextreme.com/lcdtech.html
Hopefully the displays are still available.

Yes I do. Think I'm going to rebuild it well enough for me to use it as a daily driver (i.e. on the cheap). The wife has a very nice 1992 LS400 for her use.
A write-up on how to replace the front clip would be awesome! I have a well equipped machine shop, so tools wouldn't be an issue.
