Default Need new battery

My '99 LS400 needs a new battery.

Any recommendations on the brand thats good for this car? Nothing too expensive though.

Any way to determine how old the battery is that is currently on my LS? Currently have a Lexus battery -- could it be original? Doubt it.

Called the dealer they they want $122 for the battery with 12-month free replacement. Or should I go to a different brand for the same price but better quality? What brand would that be?

Where's a good place to source batteries from for a good price ?

Thank you.

Thanks. How's the performance? How long have you had it?

I checked Autozone and here the specs for their Gold battery:
*** 750 cold cranking Amps (935 cranking Amps) *** 130 reserve minutes. -> 3 year free replacement <-

That's a higher cold cranking Amps than Optima red (720 amps, at $200 ), same warranty.

Not bad for $115. I also have a Autozone $20 instant rebate and a $15 gift card (mail in rebate) with purchase. About $86 when its all said and done.

I might just go for this deal.

BTW, just found out Duralast and Optima batteries are manufactured by Johnson Controls -- thanks Python

I just throw the Wal-Mart Heavy Duty Batteries in my cars. They are pretty high up on the CCAs and are only like $80... They have served me well..

I have a "Werker" brand battery from Batteries Plus in my 4Runner which has been in there 7 years, and it surprisingly still fires right up even when the temperature is in the negatives and the truck has been sitting for over a week. I know that it is WAY overdue for replacement, but i almost have a little experiment going on to see how long I can get it to go!

I broke down and bought an optima red top once... wasn't impressed at all. Maybe i just got a bad one, but within less than a year it wouldn't hold a charge. Thought it was a problem with the truck, but once i put a regular battery back into it it hasn't had a problem since.

I also checked Wal-Mart today and they have Champions with the same CCA and warranty at $96 -- also made by Johnson Controls.
