Question Is there a scanner that the dealer only has?

Is there a scanner that the dealer only has? That only reads Lexus codes? kinda of like the BMW peake scanner only brings up BMW specific codes for our cars.

They do have a specific scanner. Just not called the DLC3. DLC3 is in reference to the Data Link Connector, most vehicles have several of these connection points and the number only designates which one.

dealers have a scan tool that will show extra information and allow for certain things to be written (CBEST settings and airbag/immob codes), but all basic troubleshooting codes will show up on your average OBDII scanner. You may need to look up manufacturer specific codes online if your scanner won't tell you what the code is for, but it should give you the code itself.

^above is for OBDII '95+ cars only.

The reason I asked because someone on one of my other forums offered to give it to me for the shipping price and he said it was a scanner that only the dealers have.

unless it's a multi-thousand dollar Snap-on or equivalent reader, i doubt it.

but for the pprice of shipping you can't really go wrong now can you lol. my bets are it being a generic OBDII code reader though, unless you're very, very lucky.

As a former Lexus master technician, back in the day, I can tell you that the official factory scanner issued to us at the dealership (JM Lexus) was the Vetronix Mastertech

You can shop it hard on ebay and find these for sale for around $350 for the scanner + around $325 for the latest Toyota/Lexus/Scion firmware personality card 14.1a

I would choose this over the Snap-On as it will do more tests and retrieve more information as it is the factory Toyota tool.

You can also reflash the ECU with it!

Will it allow you to advance timing and change fuel / air ratio?

Both the older Toyota/Bosch(who bought out Vetronix) scanner and the Snap-On/Denso Techstream can tap into the TDCL on the older LS and the DLC3/OBD-II port. The newer scanner supports CAN natively and supports the newest cars.
