Default starter seems slow at times starting car

LS 400 '92 starter at times seems slow in starting the car. Other times it turns over much faster. Wonder if my starter is about to go out? Car has 298k and appears to never had the starter changed. Battery is correct for the car and only has about 2 1/2 years in use.

I have a 91LS400 with 288,000 miles and my starter did the same thing and finally went out at 270,000 I had the dealer put in the starter and it was expensive. I also found out my fuel rail needed new seals so I had them put them in now the starter is great.

If your starter hasn't been changed at that mileage im pretty sure it's on its way out. At the same time with at much miles it probably failed and has been replaced at least once. Anyhow, before you come to any conclusion that it's the starter get your batter test out. Replacing a batter is cheaper/ less work than a starter.
