Default Considering 235/60/16 for 1996 LS400

Hi,

After trying low profile tires a couple of times, I am going with 16's. My kids seem to find potholes that put the wheels out of round.

I used a tire calculator to look at the 235/60/16 and they are close enough in diameter. I like them because they are nice and fat. Skinny tires look wimpy to me. These are about 9.5 inches wide and should fit. I bought some 16x7 2000 Lexus five spoke wheels.

I found some Sumitomo high performance all season tires that look like a good match to my use.

Am I missing anything? Will they ride nice? Thanks for sharing your ideas.

yeah, you're missing the fact that your stock wheels are a grand total of 7" wide....

stick to 225/60-16 (the stock size) if you want stock-like results.

What would the non stock like results be?

This is a minimal change in most respects. You may not notice a difference from 225-235.

235/60-16 will fit fine and might even give you an accurate speedo reading. Your seven inch wide wheels will take even wider tires than that. Back in the late 90's, Toyo specifically marketed their 245/55-16 tires for use on standard 16"x7" 93-00 LS400 wheels. The following website provides accurate information on the wheel sizes required for various tire sizes: http://www.1010tires.com/tiresizecalculator.asp

With that said, I would still go with the standard 225/60-16 tires to preserve the cushy ride. Something else is putting your tires "out of round". 235/60-16 tires certainly aren't going to help that. Maybe buy some high quality 225/60-16 tires like the Michelin MXV4 Primacy tires I use on my 2000 LS400 - might cost a bit more but well worth it.

And buy bicycles for your kids to "drive" unless you want them to trash your LS400.

235 on a seven inch wide wheel is something that you would commonly see on pre early 90's cars. It would work & be minimally noticeable over stock.
