brake pedal out of adjustment??! how ?(pics)
Ok, here's my brake problem..
I took some pics of under the brake pedal and the adjustor which I can't figure out what it does...
By turning the adjustor clockwise the pedal moves closer to the driver if I rememer right..
Counter-clockwise pushes it closer to the carpet.
If you adjust it too close to the carpet it triggers the brake light and shift **** lock sensor which make the brakes lights stay on.
What I want is the have the pedal closer to the floor becuase it's too high and I have to lift my foot off the gas pedal pretty far to move it onto the brake pedal- But adjusting it lower makes the brake light stay on.
I also want the point of where the brakes grip to be more sensitive (dunno what you call this) so that barely pushing on the brakes makes the car stop more. Currently you really have to put your foot into it before you feel the brakes engage. Just ask mezoom!, she drove my car and was freaked out by how much you have to push the pedal down to get a reaction.
So how do I adjust this? What does that nut and adjustor do in the picture?

You need just a little free play so as not to preload the master cylinder. Now, once your foot has taken up the freeplay... the rate of actuation is dictated by the mastercylinder. Assuming the brakes are functioning properly and there is no air in the lines... you have what you have. A very touchy brake pedal is a PITA. One that is progressive is better. Just like clutches, each car make is different and going from one car to another makes the differences pronounced.
As far as the brake light goes... there should be an adjustable switch that can be moved to provide correct funtion with the pedal closer to the floor.

Lvangundy: your brakes *almost* feel like there is not enough fluid pressure. kinda like when you do a big rotor upsize without adjusting the hoses and master cylinder pressure. but i think if the master cylinder doesnt have enough pressure, the check brake icon light comes on.

I have also noticed it
I bought a 92 LS for my girlfriend's daughter and it felt sharper than my 90.It was a whole lot different.Next time when I change my pads I am going to the dealer rather than those cheap autozone pads that messes up your rotors. Those pads are made with a hard material that deteriorates your rotors.I think my problem is to bleed the whole brake system, cut the rotors and change the pads with the dealers' it will be sharp.
My 2 cents.

have you checked ur brake lines? on my sc400 i had some freeplay on mines, now after i installed the goodridge stainless steel brakes lines, i have a more responsive feel to the brakes... so i'm able to stop the car without having to give too much... also i do notice when i brake torque, i get about an inch or more of freeplay to reallie push it down and hold the car from moving. dunno if this'll help but my lines were going and just chiming in my response.

after extensive reading and getting more info, here's what I've learnt. Like some other cars the LS 93 doesnt have an adjustable push rod on the brake booster.
the check for the master cylinder comes out OK. hence that's no long a suspect for the low pedal. As for the booster, the check was to push it 4 times with the car off and then turn the car on. the pedal should move down 'slightly'. however in my case the pedal moves down a 'lot' almost to the fire wall. how can that be adjusted/fixed ?
