stock radio with aftermarket amp and sub
so ive been searching and searching but still cant figure this out. i want to run an aftermarket amp and subwoofer to my stock radio. i was told i needed to run a hi/lo converter to achieve this. so i went out and bought one witha built in remote, now my problem is that i do not know where to plug this converter too. do i do from the back of the radio? ive heard to connect it to the stock amp? ive also heard to connect it to the stock sub wires? im really confused and need some good advice. i dont want to dive into this not knowing what exactly to do, and end up frying my whole system.

If the factory head unit doesn't have a sub than it probably doesn't have a sub output. For something like that you have to tap into the regular speaker outputs on the head unit (the back) and supply the new amp power and ground. If you don't know atleast how to install a car stereo I wouldn't recommend it.

Soooo are you trying too add a second amp to power the sub only, and keep the stock amp installed to power the doors? Or completely eliminate the stock unit and replace it with an aftermarket amp? I seriously doubt the doors can handle any more power to them (might blow).

Run power to battery like you would normal for an amp. Then the hi/lo to +- stock sub(sub can remain installed if desired). Then RCA's from hi/lo to amp. connect remote to + stock sub. +_ from amp to sub(s) in chosen ohm. Google will help with this. Keep in mind our cars have 2 firewalls for the power wire to the battery to go through. GL
