1997 transmission question
Hello, I have a 97 LS400 with a manufacture date of 5/97 and a A340E transmission according to the driver door jam sticker. I can't seem to get a straight answer about which solenoid kit I need. I have been told I need the kit for an A341E Rostra kit # 52-9030 but at $690.00 dollars and the kit for the A340E Rostra kit # 52-9002 being $224.00 you can see which one I hoping it is. If anyone has any info on this I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Thanks for your reply Billy I have done some searching I have also found a lot of good info on here but I'm still confused with the info I have found. Like I found this DIY Guide on changing the solenoids on this site here at https://www.clublexus.com/forums/sc-...placement.html now I know this is for an sc400 but it is a A340E.

Thanks for replying, Well my lock-up solenoid is sticking for example when I come to a stop it's like having a manual tranny and not pushing in the clutch. The engine bogs down and almost dies. I figured if I'm gonna change one I mite as well change all 4 solenoids as a kit. It does have 241,000 miles on it.

If you can get to that solenoid lead without too much trouble, you can patch a length of hookup wire onto it, run that into the cabin, and connect a voltmeter. Monitor the voltage on the solenoid as you drive and see if is getting activation/deactivation commands when it should. That should narrow the cause to a sensor or something internal.

Thanks for the help fellas. Ok this is what I figured out. So from 1990 to 1994 has an A341E tranny and from 1995 to June 1997 has an A340E and from July 1997 to 2000 has an A650E. The A341E has the same 4 solenoids as the A340E so I went to the junk yard and got them off of a 1992 for $66 bucks not bad considering the kit Rostra makes cost $689.98. I did in up running a scanner on my car and got error code but I don't remember the exact code it gave me it tell me the code was for solenoid B in the tranny. Well she is shifting just fine now. Oh and by the way if ya ever need to order the Rostra kit it's the Rostra # 52-9030 Toyota A341E, A341F, A343E, A343F Kit (4 Solenoids) SL, SLN, 2 shift
Well Thanks for all the replies. BiggShot
