Wink ?Wild story on better gas mileage!

I have been filling my 97 LS400 when the tripometer is between 185-200 miles=10ish MPG. I had yet another oil leak and took it to a mechanic, who said I had such an oily mess dripping on my rock shield that he couldn't tell where it was coming from and to get it steam cleaned top & bottom, then drive it 2-3 days and come back. I had 3/4 of a tank at the time. After 7 days of driving, no oil leak? AND at 1/2 tank I'm at 152 miles!? Could the filthy engine have coated sensors or is there another reason? As always. thanks for all of your help and experiences. God bless, peace, rock and roll on in your Lexus!

I can't think of anything that a cleaning would give improved MPG.

Could an excessive amount of oil/gunk have "covered" any sensors? In previous posts someone mentioned they had replaced multiple things to no avail, then replaced the ECT and got better MPG.

i am stumped too unless the oil was somehow being heated up by the other parts that it was vaporizing and being sucked into the intake, then coating the sparks thus causing a poor burn and more wasted fuel, but that's just a crack pot theory.
