Default Find & replace 93 LS400 Clock/Temp Display

The clock & temp display on my 93 LS400 are now almost totally black. Any ideas as to where I can find a replacemt and how to install?

your best bet is to search for "LCD*" without the quotes in the LS400 forum, it's been detailed in older posts.

Attached is an installation guide for the LS400 LCD...

Here's an LCD source for $80. It includes new bulbs for the backlight display. Others are probably on ebay...

I just bought a new kit (looks like I'll need to follow the instructions in the pdf linked above) for my '91: the LCD glass plus a few spare backlight bulbs. Cost $45 on ebay. I'll follow up after I've done it. I've heard that this approach works as long as you have mad soldering skillz.

We (my son and I) just did our '92 for $45 on ebay like oldskewel said. Very pleased with the results.

I bought the LCD from ebay $45.00.No problems, free shipping. But you must have the proper soldering tools including a magnifying glass unless you have eagle eyes.It is so much quicker with the glass.Good Luck.It is so much nicer when you can see time & temperature.

If you have "young" eyes (less than 40 years old), you will do fine. Otherwise, if Presbyopia is setting in, a cheap pair of drug store reading glasses will work fine. A 25 watt soldering iron, solder, and solder wick (to clean the old, excess solder) is all that is needed. Pretty easy.

I did mine today. '91. $45 ebay thing. Used the excellent instructions in the pdf listed in this thread. I tried using a magnifying glass, but found it easier without. Installed and works perfectly.

It took some time though, but since I like fixing things, I enjoyed it. But for those who doubt their vision, soldering skillz, or don't want to spend a couple of hours on this, doing the ~$100 ebay swap (send in your broken unit for a fixed one) may not be a bad choice.

Default Replace 93 LS400 Clock/Temp Display

jjeichmann@yahoo.com shipped me a complete climate control unit (rebuilt & tested) for $95.00. Looks like new. This saves on soldering the LED's and replacing all of the bulbs. Have not installed yet (in the middle of the Midwest ice storm) but the instructions look simple.

He was very easy to deal with and shipped immediately upon payment.

Default 93 LS400 Climate Control/Clock Display

Installed the complete unit today that I got from jjeichmann@yahoo.com for $95.00

Works perfectly and looks like new. Very easy to install using instructions provided. Just had to remove cover around shift handle, pull out ashtray unit and air vents at top. 4 screws to remove radio/climate control and 3 plugs. After it was out, remove 2 screws on each side, pull out old unit and replace it with new. Put everything back in reverse. Took no more than 15 monutes.
