Default Oil Pan Plug

For the second time the mechanic has told me that the oil pan plug is stripped. He installed an oversize plug which is a temporary fix. Anyone know where I can get a used oil pan? Seems like someone should be able to drill it out and retap for a larger plug??

any ideas would be appreciated.

I think its aluminum and thats why you cant rethread it..... Is it the same place that keeps stripping it? If so make them pay for it

I had a replacement done by a local back-yard mechanic and he installed a used pan. It is the same place (firestone) but they won't take responsibility claiming it was stripped when it came in for routine oil change.

you cant reallly retap aluminum successfully, better off with a heli-coil.

Just find a cheap used lower oil pan, pretty sure it's steel cause aluminum doesn't like to bend much, as it cracks more easy.

Probably didn't replace the sealing washer, had a slight leak and then overtightened the sump plug to attempt to stop the leak and damaged the threads.
