Default Gas gauge not working, "E" light always on, help.

Hi guys, recently picked up a 93 LS400 and the gas gauge always shows empty. Car also had a problem with the interior cluster and climate control unit not lighting up/ flickering.

I HAVE gone ahead and replaced the three recommended capacitors listed below:
C142[big board]4.7uf,25 volt
C147[big board]10uf ,50 volt
C212[small board]10uf,16 volt

And that fixed all the lighting issues (thanks to CL!) but the gas gauge is still sitting on empty. Now I'm wondering if there's another capacitor that needs to be replaced for this exact problem or the level sender unit inside the trunk is defective.

I did read on another post (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...lems-help.html) where Ron1973 replaced capacitor C214 aswell but I see that mentioned nowhere else. Any help appreciated.

check the trunk hinge wiring harness for the interior problems before all else.

No dice... tore the tape through most of the wire and all seems fresh, nothing broken. Maybe someone can point me in the right direction as far as where exactly the wire breaks from.

Since you already replaced the caps, you saw this then, right?

Could be the sending unit then.

Yes I replaced the cap and that post contains the same picture that is floating around all over the web and multiple threads here on CL. Its not the sending unit, I've taken it apart and verified functionality by bypassing it altogether.

I dont think anyone else have ever had a problem where the gauge read empty with the orange warning light on.

I do have exact problem like your and I just replace the C142 and it work great now.

If you have a yellow warning light on when the tank actual empty, that mean the float and sending unit is working.

Are you sure that you put the right cap for C142 and the right way
