Default CNG conversion for 1995 ls400

Hello there all!

New to this forum and have been a 1995 ls400 owner for about a year and a half now. My question is this. Has anyone done/know about converting to CNG? I know there are kits becoming available, just wondering if anyone has done one of these conversions and the pros and cons of this type of conversion. Here in OKC the CNG prices are around $1.23 per gal (or however it is measured). Thanks in advance for any insight.

Any new technology requires a lot of money spent on research which is recouped by either high prices (see supercars) or high sales volume. I'd say that if oil goes above 100-150 and stays there for a while (because of fundamentals not speculation like in the past), you'll see more choices, until them ... it will be something:

1: too expensive to be worth the investment
2: exotic

I also looked into that (back when oil was high) and ... I'm still waiting.

I hope this helps a little.

I don't know how feasible it is but I know of a local propane company that converts all of their vehicles (both cars and vans) to propane when they purchase them. One of the other benefits to this is your oil stays clean as a whistle as well as the inside of your engine. I owned propane fork trucks for many years and can attest to the fact that the engine oil never got dirty.

Thanks for your insight. Some kits are around $2-$4K depending on your application. Did some calculations on gas vs CNG prices over 1yr based on 1 tank per week (providing prices stay comparable to todays prices LOL!) and the savings is around $1K to $1.5K per year. Not bad, could pay for itself in 2-3 years.

The infrastructure should be expanding although there is only 2 or 3 places here to get it (i.e. 24hrs).
