Default Buying an LS400 with 250K miles....

Seems like a butt load....but I have confidence in the motor, the interior is damn clean, and the car seems to check out....

I mechanical so If something goes wrong I'm willing to get my hands dirty....

any thoughts?

also...I found a set of LS460 wheels for sale for dirt cheap...can anyone help with photoshop... so i can get an idea of what its going to look like.

I will need to find an adapter...ls400 is 114-5's the 460 is 120-5's

This is an awesome forum...I've been leaning a lot around here... thanks guys

it'd have to be really really really cheap (cheap enough i could swap the motor and still come out ahead if need be) for me to consider it. considering the low market value of first gens period i really don't know if i could justify 250k at all.

not to say that it won't last mechanically and not to say that is doesn't look super clean.

Ask them to knock of a few bucks for the missing front/pass center cap.

Hope you can get it for $1700, that's all its worth. Looks superclean but that's a lot of money if the engine or tranny goes. Good Luck!

Maybe not SUPER mode, but definitely haggle. Use the following issues:

I clicked on the link in the craigslist listing for additional pics. What's up with the rear bumper paint that's missing? How bad is the rest that you don't see in the pic?

And ask them why the right rear wheel is on the wrong side. Those wheels are directional and that's a "L" (left) wheel. A R wheel is prolly on the driver's side or on the spare. Tell them is a cooling thing and being in the desert, you don't want your brakes to over heat, it's a SAFETY thing.

See if they'll come down to $1500.

Attach a straight on photo and I'll see what I can do.

you really dont need to worry about miles. Just test drive a clean one see how it feels. then compare it to other cars. my car has 283k and runs like a top. could drive to the west coast tomorrow if i needed to.

its been said before but MILES DONT MATTER ON A MAINTAINED LEXUS! for real.

also even if an engine goes kaput (it wont) engines are available for $300. the reason they are so cheap is cause nobody needs them. these engines dont break. neither do the trannies. these cars a reliablility marvels.

Have a '93 w 366K miles (bot it in '99 with 68K). Just rebuilt the Trans (delivered to rebuilder cost 275 labor and 1100 parts the overdrive was shot!) Have replaced a number of the suspension peices, but what a great car! Planning to repaint and redo interior and go for another 150K or 200 before replacing the engine. Avg is 20.5 MPG

For $2k, I would buy it...That car can probably go another 100k if it was well maintained. LS400 engines are by far the best engines for the money. I have a 1999 LS400 and has 150k and I know it can go 300k easily. When ppl say these cars are BULLETPROOF they are if properly maintained.
