Default engine issues after repairs...

I did my search here, ALL DATA, and IDENTIFIX... time to ask!

Car ran fine when I first bought it... was misfiring and rear main seal was leaking so...

Pulled motor -

Installed new engine mounts, rear main seal, trans front seal, EGR pipe, water pump, timing belt and pulleys, new plugs, wires, caps and rotors -

Car starts and idles (misfiring at the same time) for 3-5 seconds and stalls... if you give it any kind of gas it kills it right away...

Symptoms I've noticed: Some things may be normal but seem to be abnormal to me...

**fuel smell from exhaust

**fuel mist smell from coolant bottle, seems to have a lot of back pressure because the lower radiator hose blew off the thermostat housing while cranking the car (didn't have it clamped, but that's abnormal to me..)

**coolant spit right back out of the bottle while cranking engine (engine cold)

**if TPS clip is uninstalled, engine will stay idling but will kill as soon as
you touch the gas pedal

**backfiring/popping noise from intake arm if gas pedal is to the floor
while starting the car

**fuel good all around when loosening the bolts to the fuel rail on all 4 corners, but no fuel coming out of the fuel pressure regulator bolt when broken loose right after a startup - even after engine has been idling for the few seconds (like there was no fuel pressure build up)

**removed all spark plugs to blow out fuel (thought it was flooded) and cylinder #5 was misting out fuel like crazy while cranking it over to blow it out (normal, on just that one cylinder?)

CEL was on for MAF, Intake Air Temp Sensor, Igniter 1 and 2, but assuming they were on because I had them unplugged at one point in time. Cleared and now CEL blinking - nothing stored.

Pulling my hair out! Checked timing and re-did timing twice just to make sure. Double checked all my wiring connections, spark, plugs, wires, etc... everything okay to what I saw unless I did miss something...

Any help?

Thanks!

You have a coolant leak , either head gasket or a return tube incorrectly installed.

I do beleive it's the head...

Thake it off, skimm it (I hope I spelled it OK), and put the new gaskets...

That would help...
Now, your water is most probably mixing with oil...

There are simple tests that you can do to see if that is the case, just ask in any mechanic...

A shop manual will only help with rebuild but not with repairing it .
You need to pressure test the coolant and each cylinder with a compression and leak down test.

Does this sound like a timing issue still?

I'll be rechecking all the work done to make sure, and performing a compression check... Will update as I go.

Hopefully this topic will help others as well...
