12v power behind glovebox?
Yes, I have searched here and LOC with no luck.
I need a place to tap into behind the glovebox for 12v power - switched preferrably. I am quite a newb when it comes to electrical stuff so please explain it to me like I'm a 4 year old. Thanks in advance.

Your profile says you have a 2000 LS400 like I do. To power my semi-permanently installed portable GPS nav, I tapped into the power wire under the console wood that runs to the accessory power port inside the console box. This wire can be exposed by prying out the console wood with a trim removal tool. I used scotch-lock connectors to attach a DC power extension cord to the accessory port wire after I cut off the extension cord's male plug -- positive to positive and negative to negative. Using a DC extension cord meant I didn't have to chop off the plug on my GPS power cord.
Or, you could use a "piggyback" fuse connector in the accessory fuse slot in the underdash fuse box. I posted a photo of one is this thread: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...a-install.html A problem with using a piggyback fuse is that some are too large to allow the fuse box cover to snap on to the fuse box housing -- there are different types and some are smaller than others. If you use a piggyback fuse connector you will probably have to attach the negative wire for whatever you are adding to a convenient screw or bolt under the dash.
Piggyback fuses and scotch lock connectors are available at most auto parts stores and some hardware stores.
I doubt if there is any reason to look for an switched electrical connection behind the glovebox. It's easy enough to run a wire from the fuse box or console. I had to remove the glovebox in my 00 LS about five years ago to run wiring for my phone kit. The glovebox assembly is easy to remove.

Tapping into the accessory port wire under the console wood is sort of a PITA. I'd suggest using a piggyback fuse if you can find the type (in the right fuse blade size!) that allows the underdash fuse box cover to snap on. One variation of a piggyback fuse I've seen has the fuse holder several inches down the wire instead of piggybacked directly onto the blade that inserts into the fuse box -- if you can find this type, there is no problem with the fuse box cover snapping on to the fuse box housing.
