00' tilt wheel only extending 50% of time on start-up?
On my 2000 LS 400, when you put the key into the ignition the wheel is supposed to tilt down and extend out. Well, recently, when i put the key in the ignition, the wheel will tilt down, but not extend. THis is happening about 40% of the time.
So i took the cover off the column. I see the extending gear which is a worm gear, and the wheel column attachment to that worm gear. The bushing in the attachment (don't know the real name) appears to be torn and worn out.
I have a pretty good hunch this is the cause.
Anyone else had this problem getting good extension? Wait, what!?
is this bushing serviceable?

Depending on the VIN number of your 2000 LS400, one of the TSIB's I posted in the following thread might be useful - or at least show how the mechanism works: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/ls4...ion-00-ls.html

Thanks Kansas. It appears that my worm drive motor is different from the one that is pictured in the thread you posted a link to. When i downloaded the TSIB PDF also provided in that link, it seems that from what i can make of the exploded parts diagram, i must have the newer motor.
I will look at this a little deeper over the weekend.
Right now mine starts to telescope out, but it squeaks and then just stops.
EDIT:
After looking at the attached PDF. the last few pages shows exactly the type of motor and worm drive i have. hmmmmmmm.... so where does that leave me?
If you look at the exploded view on page 9 of 10 in the pdf, the "thrust ball bearings, steering main shaft bushing stopper" are the parts that seem to be fawked! That i can see visually anyways. I may take this document to the lexus dealership this weekend just to see what their take is on it.
