Missing CD Changer
Just bought my 98 LS & love the quiet solid ride & power. It has the Nakamichi head unit but missing the CD changer in the upper glove box. (just a big hole opening) Any opinions on where to get the whole CD changer unit or can you go after market on one compatible?

You could try sending a PM to dcfish over on http://us.lexusownersclub.com
He seems to able to supply components for both newer and older Lexus audio systems.
I don't see any on eBay today. You could try a salvage company. The Nakamichi system was quite common on the 98-00 LS400 -- or at least I've seen quite a few of them. BTW, the CD players for the Nakamichi and standard systems have different part numbers -- don't know if they are interchangeable.
Is the wood facia, storage pocket, mounting brackets and wiring harness still in your car. If not, you may need some additional parts.
You could always go with an aftermarket system that has a built in CD player, iPod connection, and other more modern features. Getting parts to repair the Nak systems is getting difficult to impossible per the shop that repaired my Nak head unit last year. If the Nak in my 00 LS400 craps out again, I will likely have to go to an aftermarket system.

Thanks for the info. If I go after market head unit, do I need to change or replace any speakers or amps or can I just replace the Nak head unit with a Pioneer & play?
