Question Needing expert advise on issues for '90 LS400 I just purchased

Hello,

Some issue that I have on a 1990 LS400 I just purchased. These issues were here when I purchased it.

1. Idels around 1100-1200rpms until warm and then around 600.

2. O/D off light flashes for a few minutes but when flashing OD works.

3. Oil low indicator stays on for a bit and sometimes comes on/off
(Oil level is fine). This is the level low indicator and not the low pressure.

4. When hitting the brakes from high-speed, front end shakes bad. When cleaning the wheels with a brush; by bumping with the brush the tires there is play. What needs to be replaced do you think?

Car runs good and is quiet for 277K. Tranny shifts smooth. Ended up paying $1600 for it.

Anyway if anyone could estimate what may be the issues above.

Thank you in advance,
The Rev. AC

3. normal behaviour, add a bit more oil should solve it pretty much
4. front brakes are really not good, this is highly recommended: true but doesnt cause vibration with wheel play
suspension bushings and/or ball joints are bad.

LIKE THE MAN SAYS ABOVE I JUST REPLACED MY LOWER FRONT JOINTS MY SELF AND THEY SO MUCH PLAY IT PRETTY SCARY TO SAY THE LEAST. I have friend who showed me how to beat off the old ones and put on the new ones and you will have to reset the front end.Any good tire shop can replace them for you at about $300 to $450.00 and the shimmy will go away as mine did. I am now driving my lexus as a sale car to about 3000-4000 miles per month and nothing has gone wrong in 210,000 miles except the lower ball joints the car is in everything on the car is original hoses air brake sys trans motor even the radiator after 18 years is original all hoses still on it ALWAYS LOOK FOR GREAT IDEAS FROM PURE DRIFTER HE HAS MORE KNOWLEDGE THAN ANYONE I HAVE READ ON THIS SITE.

I have the same idling problem with the AC fans on and the AC button not on.
After about 5 to 10 minutes, it idles down and the fans turn off. Nobody yet has been able to tell me why the fans come on.

Like puredrifter stated earlier, cars without a carb/choke will idle higher while the engine is warming up so it's completely normal. However, in your case it seems like there is a different problem seeing as how the car should warm up well before 10 minutes time.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but it is also strange that the fans come on during this process seeing as how the fans should only come on when the engine reaches a certain temperature in order to help cool down the radiator.

Do you sit and idle the car for the time or do you drive it around?

not necessarily, the LS takes a bit of time to warm up if it ISNT BEING DRIVEN.

the long warm up is exacerbated if you are at all low on coolant.
