LS 400 90,000 Mile Timing Belt Costs
Many of you know that I drive a 1995 LS. Many also ask what it costs to get the timing belt serviced. Since I am getting mine serviced for the second time today here are the details.
I had the first service performed at 105,000. Now the vehicle has 208,000 miles. A certified Lexus mechanic is performing the job. I am not getting it serviced at the dealer but at an independent shop. He said it takes about 6-7hours to do the following with Lexus OE parts:
Replace Timing Belt, Timing Belt Tensioner, Upper Idler, Lower Idler, Cam seals, Front Crank Seal, Drain & Replace Coolant, Water Pump, Water Pump O-Rings, Thermostat, Complete Brake System Flush and Refill, Oil Change, Cabin Filter, Air Filter, Drive Belt, Tire Rotation and 24 hour rental car.
$1,016.09 plus tax (the dealer was nearly $2,000 and did not offer the extra services).

yup yup yup true stuff. i saw the prices in the lexus book. 2000 grand sounds right from the dealership. it does take 6 - 7 hours. i saw my lexus friend work on mine about 5k miles ago. independent shops are the best especially when ex lexus mechanic work there. i knoe someone at my lexus mechanic shop that wants to open his own shop.

They were fine, I didnt need to replace them. And I didnt know about the tensioner untill they opened it up. They went and got the part for me. So if something else was in need of changing they would have told me. I know these guys well.

sounds like a fair price for a good service espeically since you're getting it done at a shop and not in someone's garage at home. find a lexus mechanic who works at home and you'll save more, but wont' get the rental car!

The price I paid was for Lexus OE parts and labor. It is maybe a bit higher than other independent shops in town but they added other services like oil, ATF and brake system flush. They also did my first service. This shop is also a race shop for Porsche and Ferrari and I like going there to look at all theiir race cars. The guys there took pictures of my LS - they said they never say a tweaked LS and said it looked like a sleeper - ha ha LOL
