Just got a 1999 LS400
Hi, I just bought a 1999 LS 400 black on tan interior with 106,000 miles. i am not worry with the mileage since I saw a lot of people have this car with a lot more miles. I bought it for $12,500.00, is it a good price? The car was a one owner car with all service record come with the car including timing belt at 96,000 miles. Optional equipments are cd-changer and moonroof.
I need to replace the hood strut can anyone help me with the place and the price? I also want to replace the original floor mats since it is pretty dirty.
What is the next service maintenance that I have to do? Thank you ppl.

umm, oilchange
cant really say withouth knowing what the cars had done ot it, most of the time oil ever 3k on dino or 5-7k on synthetic oil, trans and diff every 30k(i like to be clean on these, thats a trans FLUSH and a diff CHANGE), and radiator flush every OTHER year.
and just wait until something breaks be prepared to do the strut rod bushings (not too much $$), sway bar bushings (VERY cheap), watch out for Power Steering leaks, and eventually transmission mount.

The CD play was never standard on the LS400 -- always an option -- although I have seen only one or two in the 98-00 model years without one.
Google "1999 LS400 Specifications" and can find what was optional and standard equipment for most model years. I have the original Lexus LS400 brochures for 1998 through 2000.

If the CD changer was an option, what did they put in that glove box like CD changer space? Did you now have two glove boxes for extra storage?
Anyway, it sounds like that is a decent price. Earlier this year I bought a 99 LS400 with 47K miles on it for $16,900. That is less than half the miles as yours, but I paid $4000 more. Is that extra 50K miles less worth $4000? Maybe, maybe not. Either way, I think your deal is a pretty decent deal.

I got my 96 LS400 with 140K paying $5,600 (asking price was $7,500). Black on black, in very good condition. It needs two lower ball joints and I replaced them myself. Dealer wants $400 for the labor and parts.
I drove an Infiniti and I wanted a lexus as my second car. I was planning to get an SC300 5 spd or an SC400. After doing the research I found that LS4 was a much better car with a reasonable price than the SCs. Now I am going to sell the infiniti and drive LS4 only.
I also test drove a 98 LS4 with 40K miles. It was practically a brand new car. It runs very tight. I offered $13.5K, and the owner wanted $15K. The owner came back and was willing to do $14K but I already bought the 96. I believe the the owner will be willing to go for $13K now.

Actually, the CD changer price did not change all that much over the 11 years of the LS400 model run. But as the list price of the base LS400 rose from $35,000 to $54,000 over the 11 years of the model run, the price of the CD changer option became a progressively smaller percentage of the total car cost.
