'91 LS400 Tranny Trouble
Hi all,
First off, I love these forums. Here's my deal.
I have a '91 LS with about 190k on it. About 10,000 miles ago, my tranny started acting up. When it's cool it runs fine. But after 10-15 minutes of driving, it acts like it skips 2nd gear. It seems like it shifts from 1st to 3rd so I have no power until I build my speed up. If I manually shift to 2nd, i'll have a little more power, but it still doesn't feel like it's shifting to 2nd gear. After about 10 minutes of not shifting right, the O/D light will start to flash.
Anyway, about 30k miles ago, I had my local midas shop do a tranny flush and told the owner of the shop the lexus needs special fluid and he says "I've been a toyota guy all my life, I know". I'm thinking he flushed it with dexron. I'm wondering if that had anything to do with it, even though it ran fine for 20k miles before acting up.
Since it started acting up, I've replaced the tranny filter once, and pulled the plug on the tranny pan and refilled with T-IV once. So I've been replacing the oil with T-IV, but i've never done a full T-IV flush since the midas ordeal.
Any ideas what could be wrong?
Thanks for any help.
UPDATE: Searching some other forums, I'm having the same symptoms as people with a faulty Solenoid No. 2. When I get a chance, I'll get in and check it out and replace it if necessary. Thanks for the replies.
