Got my gearshifter and wheel recovered in new leather
I got my shifter and wheel recovered with new leather and it's fabulous. Removing the shifter was a bit of a pain compared to my SC400.
Doesn't it look great? The wheel looks a bit thicker than stock because I had a 1mm foam installed under the leather.
I got the sporty perforated leather handgrips . Ok so it's not that sporty I know but I like it!
Few more pics removing the shifter here http://www.planetsoarer.com/

I got the wheel recovered locally here in Adelaide Australia. There is a thriving car manufacturing industry here ( e.g. the GTO Pontiacs are made here down the road from me). The same guy who does the leather for the factory cars did my wheel as well.

Cost me an extra $16 US for the sport grips and control foam (not much!) - the shifter and the wheel cost about $212 US roughly. A plain leather wheel recover is about $160 US roughly. Toyota dealers here in Australia get him to recover leather wheels because it's cheaper than new ones and the quality is the same.

No he doesn't have a site or anything - I drive down to see him regularly to drop stuff off and pick stuff up - then I post it. It's old fashioned but it works. He only takes cash and won't post. So I always try to bring the right money and then off to the post office. Airmail to the US from Australia is about $60 US. If you get real keen you can email me at planetsoarer@yahoo.com.au and I can get it done for you. For my SC400 I did a colour change to black. Coloured wheels are a bit old fashioned I reckon. I had to get the buttons and airbag etc painted to match.
I didn't know how it would turn out but the black is growing on me. It was all grey.
I considered black for my LS400 but decided against it.
I think the smooth style stitching like below
gathers the leather in less - there is less bunching up around the seam if that makes any sense.
The original stitching on the right is a single thread, I went for the dual thread baseball stitch on my LS400 - the smooth stitch on the left is common on new cars today.
