$700 for water pump and timing belt!!
I just took my 94 Ls in the shop cause it was making a weird noise. Turns out I need a new water pump. Is $700 a good price?
Also, its a 94 Ls interior and exterior is in PERFECT condition, but I'm up to 185k. This is my first maintence issue... is my car getting old and should I sell?

Not bad.
I went to near 200k also on stock belt. Meh, I'd do it again if I have to. Too bad these motor's dont have timing chains. Easier to roll in and to fix late cam timing too.

My point is not surprise that it went that far with an original TB, just a little shocked that he now seemingly feels that it is no longer dependable transportation after only having 1 service issue???
Took my TB to 170,000 or so.

Update: not the water pump
Once they took everything apart, they called me and told me it is the fan bracket. They are telling me that costs $400 for the part. Is that a good price.

dude i went through this same exact thing, only I do all of my work myself. I bought the water pump and ended up HAVING to drive the car to work one day instead of the buick.... pulley seized and i found out the hard way it was not the water pump.
the bracket is more expensive than the ****ing water pump, which is ridiculous, but whatever. I will come back with the part number.... park place lexus in here can get you the bracket for around $200 even + shipping.
the sad thing is, to get that god damn bracket off, you're basically 75% of the way to the water pump and timing belt...

I'm getting ready to do a timing belt and water pump change...156K miles...question, should I change out the fan bracket while I'm at it?
I was thinking of switching to an electric fan as listed on lexls.com, but will this help on the wear or is this bracket failure inevitable?
Thanks.
