Just like normal driving how far does your rpm reach?
2000rpm?,2500rpm?,3000rpm?,3500rpm?,4000rpm or greater?

Do you guys drive hard or take it easy on your LS?

For me i take it easy on my engine for longivity.i will mostly go about 2200rpm on shifts, sometimes up to 2900rpm,but the most i will go is 4000rpm.

I do not want to take any risk with something breaking down in the engine.

When is to much to much?how do you know when you have past the safety point in the prm range is it great than 4000rpm? or could it be higher?

hey edogg,

sup? i used to push my Lex to the max by taking it up to about 5,000 rpm before cuz i thought i was untouchable with a warranty and all. but now i take it easy cuz some parts in the warranty might not be warrantied! and i dont know .....is it alright to be shifting an automatic? from L-2-D? or downshifting from D-2? i can feel the power but is it safe on the engine and tranny?

Cool Wanna race?

I use to drive mine HARD!
I will highway battle all the time in it and the hondas will freak that I will be either keeping up with them or even passing them!
They don't know there is a V8 lurking in this heavy sedan.
Plus, I'll be out bassing them too!
It is so funny seeing their face so surprised at me passing them and out bassing them, I just love it!
Now I will just probably cruise with it on weekends.

1st gear auto shifts (full throttle) at 5900rpm, 2nd and 3rd at 6100rpm (3rd to 4th occurs about 125mph)

edogg, my man, your air intake and exhaust mods are near worthless below 4000rpm

It is REAL hard to drive at high rpm much more than 1 or 2% of your drive time. As long as you keep the vehicle well maintained I wouldn't worry too much about it. It's better to burn out than rust baby

yeah Jbrady,i only feel more power when i am at the higher rpms,3500-4000 then i really feel the difference of my intake and finally my exhuast leaves a pretty good deep grunt.

Yes i do keep good matienice, i change my tranny and motor oils every 2500 miles for safety and i just had my timing belt along with the water pump, idler, and tensior pullies replaced.

But won't driving around 3000-4000 rpm shorten the engine's life by wearing it down little by little,if you constantly do it?

If you mean leaving it in 3rd and not selecting overdrive so that you are CONSTANTLY running at the higher rpm then, yes, the engine will wear quicker and the gas mileage will suck. If you floor it from every stop sign and signal, yes, wear and tear will be greater. If you drive it normally EXCEPT when wanting to GO and then you stand on it and take it to 6000rpm in each gear...no real problem...this is the design parameter of the car...not to mention the FUN factor I doubt you could wear our a Lexus engine in under 250,000 miles driving this way. Don't forget the prime directive HAVE FUN

So from a complete stop and flooring will cause the most damge.

Will from a complete stop going is to about 3000rpm in the first gear too high? This is my main concern.

So prenetend that you are going about 40mph and you what to floor it and go about 100mph this does not wear your enigne right?

Leaving overdirve off i never do,sometimes only on the freeway is this dafe?

I just do not want to shorten my enigne's life, when i know it can last forever.

RELAX...NOTHING lasts forever!

Seriously, you sound like a new mother afraid to make a mistake. DRIVE the car. The factory has built in MANY safety features. Think about it...If my 87 Ford TBird Turbo engine was FINE at 210,000 miles (pulled it running fine, opened it up and just fine) running 20psi turbo boost and shifting at 6200rpm FREQUENTLY, top speed runs, street races, drag races, aggressive driving (250hp engine = 62hp per piston vs 250hp V8 = 31hp per piston) NO PROBLEM. Stop worrying and start enjoying.

Yeah JBrady i do sound like a mother scared to make a mistake, but when i had my honda i drove the **** out of it because i knew i was going to get the LS,now that I have my LS i am not sure how much abuse the LS can take.

One more question JBrady why do my mods do nothing until i practically go to 4000rpm,is the LS really that much of a slug in the lower power band?

It is a matter of air flow both into the engine and out of the engine (intake and exhaust). At low rpms the stock intake and exhaust flow enough and do not create any or much of a restriction. Adding capacity where capacity isn't the problem doesn't gain anything. It is at the higher rpms where the air flow in and out of the engine increases that the stock parts begin restricting flow. Replacing the stock parts with better flowing parts allows the engine to produce extra power at these higher rpms. To gain power in the lower rpms you can change to low rpm torque cams but this looses high rpm power. This is what V V T i does, it uses a low rpm torque cam profile until the engine gets to a higher rpm and changes to the high rpm cam profile. Good stuff
