Default Belts for '90 LS400 cassette? Where to buy?

I read somewhere on here that the belts in the cassette player in most Lexus' last about 10 years. I am pretty sure mine are shot because when I insert a cassette, it automatically switches from tape to FM. Can anyone recommend a place where I can buy the belts?

are you sure its the belts? can you eject your cassette tape?

if you cant eject it. it may not be your belts. what you can do is disconnect the battery for 5 seconds or so. and then reconnect. sometimes the cassette player acts up. it happened to mine and thats how i remedied the situation. so yah do this only if you are unable to eject your cassette tape.

The tape ejects just fine. In fact, that's what it always does a few seconds after inserting it.

I doubt you can buy just the drive belts for it. But however, if you know the cassette decks manufacturer you may be able to find a replacement belt. These belts usually look like large "O" rings.

Anyway, it may be a lot of trouble to replace the belt even if you find a new one.

My guess is that Lexus will only sell you a new unit.

I recently purchased a 1991 LS400 and would love to get all of the original equipment to work properly. The tape cassette does not work and I have removed the radio unit. To my surprise, it is not too difficult to access the tape cassette belt. I think that there is only one belt, but mine has disintegrated to such an extent that I can't really tell. From prior experience I know that a good source of tape cassette belts is: MCM Electronics (www.mcmelectronics.com), however, I don't know the belt size or the threading pattern. Can someone help?

When you say "Threading Pattern" are you saying the belt has small notches or cogs in it? Is this not an "O" or "V" or plain "Flat" belt?

I think the first step is to identify the manufacturer and then try to find what the belt specs are. A lot of these devices use the same type belt, so maybe you can cross reference a replacement.

You may want to consider a wrecking yard. However a used part may be no better than your current part because it seems the belt deterioration is the result of age.

Sorry, I can't be of any more help than that.

Good luck and let us know if you’re successful. It may help someone else.

I think "threading pattern" he is asking the routing direction. Ya know, like a serpentine belt goes to so many pulleys.

python; Us "old" guys still use cassettes, sometimes.

Thank you for the correct words. Yes, I am asking for routing direction on the pulleys.

0100 - first of all, i'd look for a junkyard stereo that works before trying to refurbish my existing stock stereo
0200 - Mugen, just do what I did and splice some 3.5mm headphone connectors in the line between the CD changer and the head unit. Perfect aux input.
