'91 LS400 - Catalytic Converter(s)
New member - 1991 LS400. My catalytic converter sounds like it has pebbles in it - I hear that means it is time for a new one. I am confused on how many CATs this car has - i know it has 2 CATs (1 for each side coming off the exhaust at the motor) but is their a 3rd CAT down at the center of the vechile where the exhaus Y's in to one pipe or is that really just a muffler.
Anyway, if anybody has any experience with this problem - your help is appreciate. Where to buy new CATs?Is this a job you can do at home?
( I posted this at YahooGroups as well so sorry if you have seen this before)

Pole Position
well your car is in the east coast so, not 100% sure but more than likely you have a non cali car, so if your cat is bad i would say get test pipes or straight pipes for cats and leave the rest alone, (or if u want the most power for still being quiet) loose the 2 cats, keep resanator, loose 2 middle mufflers, and keep the factory rear mufflers on for quietness you will be happy with the results

Hey, I'm considering just that. . . how much of difference does it make in sound? I know the middle mufflers/resonators are the most restrictive pieces. . . how much of a difference in performance do you feel?
