Default foggy lights

Hello I am in the middle of trying to clear out my headlight, I own a 1993 sc400. I was just wondering if you needed to remove the level that is inside the assembly before heating? Is there anything else I should be aware of? Thank you for your help, so far so good.

I've heated my ES lights multiple times without removing the level and haven't had any problems. I've always done it at 200 degrees, so I can't vouch for the safety of anything hotter than that, but 200 has worked well for me.
