Airbag recall
Has anyone received the letter from Lexus regarding passenger side airbag recall? I heard they have a team in Torrance that will be doing the work on the LFA, which they have to remove the entire dash to be able to replace the unit.
I'm nervous on having the dash removed and put back again.

I certainly hope that Lexus handles this in the appropriate manner. Meaning that a team of specialists who are inheritantly familiar with the proper way to dismantle the dash and reassemble it are put in charge of this procedure. God forbid if they leave it up to individual dealers and a service bulletin.......

I actually got a call today from Lexus corporate about this takata airbag recall. They said they will send two notices before they schedule reliable auto transport to pick up the LFA from your residence and send it to Lexus Corporate in Torrance to fix the recall issue. They are flying three experts from Japan to address the issue. Also they told me that they will have a professional detail done on the car after the repairs are done. So FYI! =)

Also got the call yesterday - it was from the Lexus Enform / roadside service number. I didn't pick up, but the voicemail was also followed up with an e-mail.
The Lexus rep identified as part of "Lexus Priority Services". This and the direct/personal contact shows that they're taking this pretty seriously for the LFA.
I've been critical of Lexus' recent handling of the LFA community (esp. as concerns new buyers), but it's reassuring that they still seem to be committed to a high level of service for model support.

Spoke to the Lexus rep today. Three takumi from Japan have trained 10 service techs at the Torrence CA repair facility to handle the recall. Apparently it will take 2 techs 8 hours to perform the airbag replacement. Velvet lined shelves will be used to store the dismantled parts during the procedure. As mentioned they will detail the car plus do a before and after checkup on the car. Estimated turnaround will be 3-4 weeks for us east coast boys.

My understanding is that the whole front dash is going to be replaced with a new one, since the passenger airbag is going to be replaced...my friend at Lexus said it's going to cost about 30k for the dash alone...

The recall notice does say to not have anyone in the passenger seat until the airbag is replaced. I would definitely take that advice considering some of the airbags basically explode shrapnel if they are defective.
