What style sub box works best in a GS350??
I've been to 3-4 reputable shops around my house and they all recommend something different. I'd like to hear from those of you with subs in the trunk that sound really good. One shop told me free air subs mounted right up to the rear seats, another said sealed box facing rear and another shop said ported box facing down. I was wanting to install like a JL 12W6 or something along those lines. Any pictures you have are also appreciated.
Thanks,
Todd

I'm cut and pasting the response I gave to the poster right above you.
I'll start by referring you to this page with basic info on the 4 most commonly used "enclosures" (since infinite baffle is not truly an enclosure).
Read through this so you can start to decide what you want your resulting sound to be like.
The first question I ask my customers when they ask for a custom sub enclosure is what style of music are you listening to and what to want the output to sound like. From there the enclosure type can be more easily decided upon.

Here is what I did in my IS. You don't have to go so elaborate. I upgraded from a JL Audio 12W6V2 and JL Audio 500/1 amp to this... https://www.clublexus.com/forums/lex...with-pics.html

You could do a free air sub playing through the ski pass or remove the stock sub in the rear deck and do a free air there as well. Doing free air subs against the rear seat is going to do nothing as the rear seat backs are solid steel. You can also do sealed or ported facing in any direction with good results. If you do any boxed sub I would remove the factory sub to help vent the bass into the cabin. I have ran both sealed and free-air with decent results and I am getting ready to do a ported box for some extra output.
