will I get better map coverage if I upgrade my navigation ECU from Gen 2 to Gen 4?
my current navigation ECU is a Gen 2. based on what I've found,
I can just buy a Gen 4 ECU and the upgrad is plug-and-play.
however, I'd like to know if there's any difference in map coverage
between using a Gen 2 ECU and a Gen 4 ECU. This is assuming that
both have the just-released 2009 map DVD inserted.(either Gen 2 or 4)
Thanks!

My understanding is that the map coverage is based on the data from the DVD or HDD, not the ECU. So, I believe you would have the same map coverage on a 2nd Gen DVD-based system and a 4th Gen DVD-based system using a 2009 DVD.
I know that the 1st Gen systems like the one in my 1999 GS 400 have less storage, a lower resolution display, and a less capable processor. The best map coverage available for that system is quite a bit less than what I have on my 2007 GS 450h and 2007 LS 460.
