Upgrading GS400 door speakers?
All,
I would like to replace my stock door speakers (4") with some after market (6.5"). I would like to keep the stock head unit and amp (Pioneer) for now. I'll be using the ebay speaker adapters to get the 6.5" to fit.
Has anybody intalled after market speakers with stock Pioneer stock head unit and amp?
Is it an improvement in sound over the stock system?
What speakers did you use?
Thanks

Well pushing some good speakers with the OEM (under powered) amp aint gonna sound that good, bro.
U should upgrade your speakers first, then save some more dough and push them with an aftermarket amp that will feed them more power.
I have the Dynaudio components speakers, pushing them with a 4 ch amp and boy do I love the highs those MD-100 tweeters produce.

The GS version of the ML system PALES when it comes to a simple speaker swapout utilizing Dynaudio speakers. There was a huge thread on this some time ago. Even the newer ML LS460 doesn't sound nearly as good as a Pioneer/Nak with a Dyn setup.
What I find lacking about the ML setup is that the soundstage is highly compressed. This is with and without the DSP settings. Hop back into my lowly GS / Pioneer w/Dyns and the soundstage is much larger - more immersive. Plus the mids aren't as shallow sounding as the ML.
Reliability - I've YET to have seen a blown Dynaudio speaker. They're TOUGH. On the other hand, I read about blown speakers/subs in ML systems all the time.
