MP3s have slight pops or other artifacts
I have the stock non-ML sound system, and since I started listening to my MP3 CDs, I noticed that some of them have a lot of sound artifacts when played out of my Lexus. I do not hear the artifacts when I play the same disc on my computer.
Does anyone else have this problem?
Thanks

i have a non-ML system too, but i haven't experienced any of these "pops" you're referring to. trying a different type of burning media is a good suggestion. also, do you experience this on all your tracks or just some?

Not all of my songs have this, although I would say it affects albums as a whole.
I would normally agree with you on the media, or even possibly the burning software, but I usually can get 6 albums onto one MP3-CD, and not all of the albums have the issue on the same disc. That is why I am thinking that it may have something to do with the MP3 encoder used?
What I am going to try next is burning the bad album as a true Audio-CD and see if the tracks have the same issue. If they do, then the MP3 encoder may not be compatible with the decoder the lexus comes with.
The odd thing is, I listen to the same MP3-CD in my other car, which has an aftermarket alpine head unit, and all songs sound great.
This is why I was hoping other people had the same problem with the Lexus. Might save me some troubleshooting headaches.
Thanks guys!!

this too crossed my mind, which is why i asked if all/some of your tracks give you this problem. i use nero, and when i don't have access to nero, i use roxio, try playing one of your existing mp3 CDs on someone else's car and if the same problem occurs there then you know at least it's not your car.

I did try the MP3-CD in my other car, and they play great. I have tried to determine if there is a consistent bit rate that the problem MP3s are encoded at, but its a mix of 128,160, and 192.

The music can be at any level. The pops are as loud as the volume is set, so the lower the volume, the softer the pops. The pops do happen consistently - if i rewind the track back 10 seconds, the same pop will happen each time.

I tried MP3 and WMA at a number of bit rates and decided on WMA at 320kbps. It works great in that my wife can create mix CD's for the Lexus and I copy songs to an SD card to play in my car on a Pioneer head unit. A CD can hold about 75 songs on average while my 4GB SD cards can hold about 400 songs at that bit rate.
My 1,500 CD collection was ripped using Easy CD DA Extractor over a couple of months time. To keep from re-ripping anything, I store a copy of the Music folder on a NAS drive as well as an external USB drive.

Ok guys, there is no pop on the file. When I play the song on any other head unit, or open the MP3 file in a music editor on my PC, the file does not have these pops I am hearing in my lexus.
This is something the Lexus is producing on its own.
I guess it sounds like I have a bad sound system in my new car then?
